Moana New Zealand is a 100% Iwi-owned company (indigenous peoples of New Zealand) and stands proudly as the largest Māori owned kaimoana (seafood) and kai ora (Ready-to-Eat Meal) company in New Zealand.
Founded as part of a settlement with The Crown in 1992, we are an important part of the inter-generational Māori Fisheries Settlement.
Our story is of ‘true connection’. True provenance, true to nature and true for generations. It shows the connection between our people, our product and our place. The interconnectedness shows the responsibility of sustainability sits with all of us.

In 1995 Prepared Foods Processing Limited was purchased by Moana New Zealand.
Prepared Foods Processing Limited embodies a legacy of innovation and tradition. Following extensive renovations, the Palmerston North facility has been transformed into a cutting-edge, Halal-certified establishment, positioned as a pivotal player in New Zealand’s pāua (abalone) industry.
While upholding our leadership in the pāua market, we've expanded our scope to include an array of premium ready-to-eat meals. Operating seamlessly side by side, our integrated approach ensures efficiency and excellence across our diverse product range.

Canning
Moana New Zealand has perfected the production of canning abalone.
We share with the world the true and natural, wild abalone experience. Wild abalone is harvested by expert divers from the rugged and pristine coastlines of New Zealand under a strict quota management regime employed to sustain the fishery.
MRE - Meals Ready to Eat
Our range of ready-to-eat meals are packed with the energy and nutrients you need to go the distance.
With a shelf life of 24-36 months, the meals are packaged with top quality food ingredients to ensure the goodness inside is ready to eat whenever you need it.
We design, commercialise and manufacture these products which can also be developed for any private label customer so, your brand or ours, it’s up to you. We can react quickly to meet the needs of our clients for high specification, short-run products.
In addition to our ready to eat meals, we are also the only producers in the market of long-life bread.
